SAN DIEGO CONVENTION CENTER EXPANSION DELAYED

From Anime News Network

The expansion to the San Diego Convention Center may not be usable until 2018 due to legal struggles. The California Coastal Commission (CCC) unanimously approved the construction of a US$520 million expansion, but the San Diegans for Open Government group and the Navy Broadway Complex Coalition want to put the issue to ballot. The approval by the CCC will raise the area's hotel room tax from 12% to 15%. The Superior Court upheld the tax but the organizations have filed an appeal.
The appeal may not be heard until next year and the organizations have two separate lawsuits regarding the funding for the convention center planned.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the groups are asking for a ballot measure and if the measure is rejected what will happen to San Diego Comic-Con when their contract is up in 2016.
